Filter by IP address in GSS?

I need a solution

I am wondering if there is a way to filter the Default machine group in a way that would seperate machines by office location. We have 5 offices across the US and I would like a dynamic group for each of them. I have tried a few different filter settings such as clicking IPAddress under Network Adapter Configuration and inputing "10.10." for the string and can't seem to get machines to show based on IP address. Each office has a separate "10." address ranging from "10.10." to "10.50." so this would seem to be the way to go. Does anyone have any ideas? I was going to resort to using the user's timezone as a filter but two of our offices are in the same timezone.

Windows 7 x64 doesn't have network drivers after successful GhostCast deployment

I need a solution

Hello,

I have a Dell Optiplex 790 that I am having network driver issues with post-GhostCast.

WinPE-512 and DeployAnywhere both have all of the correct network drivers for the Intel 825xx network card (both 32-bit and 64-bit, separated out for XP, Vista, and 7). I am able to successfully deploy the image to the machine, and it boots successfully into Windows 7 x64.

Unfortunately, once booted and logged-in, Windows does not have the appropriate network driver installed. I assume there should be a way for Ghost to install the proper Windows 7 x64 network drivers during a GhostCast. Can someone assist me with a way to do so?

I can always log-in and install the drivers manually once the new OS is booted, but this would be a pain to do on multiple machines.

wrong product??

I need a solution

My company purchased Ghost V15. On the disk it says "for use on 1 PC". My boss, the IT wanted to use this product for imaging for a MASSIVE windows 7 roll out. My guess is he purchased the wrong product becuase after creating the image/back-up file it allows me to create 2 images, then the file goes to 'invalid' status.

My question is, what product should he have purchased for an image roll out of about 400 clients and what is the estimated license cost.

thanks

I need a solution

Hello,

As the title suggests I am getting some new Dell Optiplex 7010 ready for deployment. I have my own environment seperate from the rest of the network. Using a Cisco RV 120w has my DHCP pool, Cisco SG100d Gigabyte unmanaged switch.  All the Dell's have gigabyte network adapters.

When I do a unicast session, I get Speeds from 1700 - 1800 mb/min, I move to a multicast session, i get speeds 70 - 400 mb/min.

All the PC's are brand new i7's with Seagate 250GB drives.

Anyone have any suggestions of where I am losing the performance?

Thanks

Problem with Ghost and Windows 7 - sysprep - unattend.xml - Samba domain

I need a solution

Hi !

I have 160 computers on Windows XP (Samba environment). I have to migrate all Windows 7 for September.
Until now, I prepared my masters with sysprep + Ghost console. Everything was automated (renaming stations, joining domain in Samba).
I started to test the equivalence with the famous Windows 7 unattend.xml file, but unfortunately I do not get the desired result ....

You will find below the different stages that I (and a few questions at the end!).
Obviously, the response file does not run.
Thank you in advance for your advice!

I-Preparation and Recovery Master

1-Preparing My Master (software installation, etc.).
2-Installation of WAIK
3-Creation of the answer file (unattend.xml)
4-Copy the unattend.xml file in C: \ Windows \ System32 \ sysprep
5-In the terminal, run "sysprep.exe / generalize / oobe / shutdown / unattend: unattend.xml"
(treating the stain for a few minutes). The computer shutdown.
6-Recovery Master Ghostcast via server (for PXE)

II-Deployment of the "syspreped" Master

1-Deployment with the Ghost Console of the "syspreped" Master.
2-The computer got its right name (thanks to the "configuration" of the Ghost Console task, however, I do not feel that the response file is working properly (the computer doesn't join the Samba domain), and the first start is very long (over a similar task in Windows XP, about 10min-15min).
3-The unattend.xml answer file is not deleted from the deployed position (as the sysprep.inf with Windows XP after the first reboot), which can be useful, since the administrator password field is clear in this file.

Some questions:

1-Should we get the Master via the Ghost Console using "Run Microsoft Sysprep on this machine before creating the image"? (I created a sysprep Windows7 configuration by importing the file unattend.xml)
2-Should we copy the unattend.xml answer file in a location other than C:\Windows\System32\sysprep on the master computer so that it is removed from the client after deployment?
3-Unable to install the Ghost client on a computer already registered in the Ghost Console (before Windows XP, now under Win7), despite the uninstall from the Ghost Console.
The installation of the Ghost client on another computer under Windows7 never declared before in the Ghost Console works properly.

Is one of you managed to use sysprep with windows 7 with Ghost (in Samba domain), I'm very very interested!!!

Thanks!

Guillaume

The Ghost install pdf says I need to add the universal ndis driver which is supplied by 3Com in the MBA utilities disk.

The pdf points to http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/mba.htm

but this does not point to what I need. Is there an updated link somewhere that I just havn't found yet?

Ghost 36000 internal inconsistency error

I need a solution

Hi,

On a HP Folio 9470m image when doing restores I am getting the 36000 internal inconsistency error. This happended 3 out of 5 times. It does not happen every time. Each time the error happens when the restore process is at about 50%. This image was based off an image of HP Elite Boot 2570p laptop. That image was super loaded with a lot of stuff. So in the interest of time the decision was made to drop the 2570 on the 9470m, resolve the driver differences (I used HP Soft Pack Download Manager) and then once ready re-snap the image. To get Ghost running we used the Super Boot CD.

I am very much aware this error does not have a defintive cause and fix as indicated in

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH106950&locale=en_US

The only thing I can think of is the loading a 2570 image on a 9470m image might have caused some corruption. However, when the image comes down it appears to be rock solid. Other stand alone images (created by scratch) do not appear to have this issue. Again because the image is loaded to the max it would probably take just as long to build from scratch. I am not in favor of the way its done, but that is what I was told.

I just wish this Ghost 360000 error was more cut and dry.......

Ghost client on windows7 doesn't appear in ghost console

I need a solution

Hello,

I got a problem with one windows7 client.
The remote client installation worked fine on the client. I can see the ghost systray icon which is connected to the Ghost server.
But the machine doesn't appear in any of the machine groups in the console (neither in the Default group).
My console version is 11.5.1.2266.

I tried to :
- Disable all the firewall (client and server)
- Reload the ghost services (client and server)
- Copy the pubkey.crt from the server on the client
- Uninstall and (re)install the Ghost Console Client from the Ghost Console and from the client with the Client.msi. Both are working great but the client won't appear in the Ghost Console.
- Disable the IPv6 parameters (just to try...)
- I've got enough number of clients registered in the Ghost Console

Thanks for your help!

Ghost Write Error 19944

$

I need a solution

I'm still very new to using Symantec Ghost version 2.5.1.  We used to use Acronis Snap Deploy and we had tons of issues where we would image labs and have half or more of the PCs just reboot in the middle of the reimage.  I wasn't sure if it was bad software or something wrong with the network.  But Acronis' tech support was terrible and I felt they weren't quite main stream so I had a hard time getting support elsewhere for them.

So, I finally convinced our company to purchase Norton Ghost.  I don't seem to be having as many problems.  But today is the first day I'm attempting to reimage a whole lab of 32 PCs.  It hasn't finished imaging yet.  I set it up to boot to the Ghost Cast server using PXE using PC DOS.  Most of the PCs booted fine, but a few of them on the first or second try, gave me a "Ghost Write Error 19944."  I Googled the error and found this article...

http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/ghost-write-error-19944

Everywhere says there are the two ports that are being blocked to cause that error.  One of the suggestions was Trend was known to block the ports.  I uninstalled Trend from the server.  I still got the error on a few more PCs booting up after that.  (Now to be completely honest, I haven't rebooted the server PC since uninstalling Trend and installing MS Security Essentials.  It would've caused me to have to start over on the reimage booting of the PCs... about 20 of them.)  So far 45+ minutes into the reimage, I haven't had any clients fail yet which is an improvement from Acronis.  But trying to figure out the reason for the 19944 error.  The other suggestion is the ports are being blocked by a firewall or router.  The network is a flat network, one wide open broadcast domain.  We're planning on subnetting and splitting it up this summer, but it hasn't happened yet.

So, the only firewall right now is the firewall to the ISP.  But what doesn't make sense to me is why are 90% of the PCs not being blocked and if I reboot the affected PCs enough, they get through.  If it was a blocked port, it should give me the same error over and over until I fix what's blocking the port.

So, looking for suggestions.  Thank You!

Ghost 11.5 Build 2266 - Ghost Boot Wizard Crashes whenever, trying to make a Ghost Boot ISO or CD/DVD

I need a solution

Hello,

I recently as in today, just purchased Ghost and the program is working fine with the obvious issue with the Boot Wizard fatally crashing.

I'm using a domain administrator account for a Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit OS on a Windows based domain. I've even given the Ghost folder in the program files folder permission rights for this account (even though I doubt its needed)

I have the most up to date version of C++ for 2005, 2008, and 2010 in both x86 and x64 versions. Windows 7 has been run and the computer is up to date fully. My antivirus is SEP 2013.

is their a particular build that I can use to fix this issue....

I'm going to reference this post: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH131612

Here are two pictures below, one of my current build after running live update and then the error message. NOTE: I tried running the Boot Wizard in a elevated admin level even though I'm on the domain admin and local admin account on this computer and still producing the following errors:

Ghost32 Version 11.5.1 - Selecting Local Drives As Image Sources:

$

I need a solution

When I backup my local hard drives to other local hard drives and select Local\Disk\ToImage a source menu appears that list all my local drives and in the title bar at the top of the application to the right of Ghost32 11.5.1 there is a message that says click on the drive you want to be the source for the image file you wish to create.

In looking at the lists of drives there are no logical letter references nor are the volume labels referenced in the menu. I have several WD 80GB hard drives and I not able to tell them apart from this menu. I noticed the drives do not appear in the same order in the menu as listed in Windows. I tried to drill down on the drives but no other information was available. I also noticed the drive labels are referenced in the destination drop down menu where you select the destination and create a name for the ghost image file.

To resolve the problem I used Windows Explorer and the drive properties in the device manager to reference the drive’s model number by having properties populate the volume information on volume tab where the drives model number is also listed. With this I created a list of my drives which includes the logical letter, label name and model number that is also provided in the source menu in Ghost32. Each time I back my drives up I refer to my list I have written down on piece of paper.

Is there away to see the logical drive references or labels in the source menu or some other to keep up with the drives in Ghost32 as referenced in Windows?

Sincerely,

Mark

system error 53 when doing net view or net use

I need a solution

Hi,

I used Ghost Boot Wizard to create a standard Ghost Boot Disk. It boots just fine. However, when I use net use or net view I get system error 53. I am reasonably sure my net use syntax is correct. I am even more sure of that when the net view also returns a system error 53. In the past Super Boot CD's have been used and had no issues mapping drives. I will gladly post some examples, but this error is frustrating......

Hi,

I am ghosting a windows xp image. Sometimes it works, unfortunately sometimes not. When it does not work, it gets stuck in DOS and ghost.exe exits with this error. I have recreated the image from a fresh install but I run into the same problem again.

c:\ghost\ghost.exe "-preservedest=1" "-clone,dst=1,mode=restore,src=@MCcompanmepush1023" -batch -sgb -jaddr=ipaddr -sgt

After spawning command

Real MBR: ....

MBR.BIN: ... (identical to Real MBR)

Excpetion code: 000000d General protection violation Error: 00f4

Registers:

.....

Does anybody know what this exception code or error code mean?

Thanks for any help!
