get Connected or Disconnected state from SYMANTECGHOST.DB
What table\field in the SYMANTECGHOST.DB can i query to identify if a machine in the GhostConsole has Connected or Disconnected status ?
(v 11.5.1.2266)
Just saw this link : https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/gho...
"In that type library there is a method to access this flag for an individual client; in the ConfigServer.Application COM service the ClientMachines property returns an object which (among other things) operates as a VB collection of client objects, and in those client objects there is an IsRunning property which reflects the connection state."
Does someone by any chance have a code sample that would print this out (any language).
Symantec Ghost 11.5.1 crashing during restore/backup
I'm currently using Symantec Ghost 11.5.1 to push a Windows 7 image to hard drives for operating systems upgrades at the company I'm interning at. Within the last 2 weeks Ghost has been crashing during image restoration, image creation and even If I'm just trying to close the program. I get no error message. We run ghost64.exe off a network drive and no one else is having this issue other than me. Ghost will even crash if I have another window over top of it (ie a web browser, windows explorer etc.). I'm backing up and pushing the image locally from my C drive through a Sata-to-USB converter (another intern is using this same setup and it works flawlessly for him). I'm working on a Dell Latitude 6510. I attached the output of the GHOSTERR.TXT file that was created on the last crash. Has anyone had similar issues? I can't get any work done because all the imaging and backups crash midway through.
Ghost really slow on Dell R610's
Hi,
I have a Dell R610 server, the server has A SAS 6/iR controller with SAS disks able to sustain high transfer speeds under windows.
When booting using our PCDOS Ghost boot disk to create (and later restore) some images transfer speeds are very very slow. Ghost reports speeds of around 250MB/minute.
I've tried a bunch of things:
- eliminate the network as possible bottleneck by ghosting to a 2nd local disk
- use a WinPE bootdisk
But the problem remains.. I'm not sure what to try anymore... My hypothesis is that the SAS control / disks are not handled correctly (driver?) but I would know how to go about fixing that...
Any help is welcome!
The vmdAdatper switch is not working correctly
This is part of a batch file i have written:
ghost32.exe -clone,mode=restore,src=%SRC%,dst=%DEST% -batch -sure -vmdkAdatper=lsiLogic
It works fime until i add " -vmdkAdatper=lsiLogic" and it then says that its a invalid switch.
Am i leaving something out or typing it wrong?
Any help that anyone can provide would be great!
Ghost Solution Suite IP Address
Hi, I'm having an issue with using Ghost Solution Suite. I have created been able to successfully create a boot USB through the Boot Wizard and I have the USB in hand. I have booted my HP mini 1104 through the boot disk and attempted to unicast the image (I am trying to create the image). The HP mini 1104 however will not capture the image because it is missing an ip address.
I have the HP mini 1104 connected by ethernet network cord, but it cannot find the ip address to boot the USB. If there's any more information you need or need to me come up with I can provide that. Please help.

Newbie: Symantec Ghost - How to create an image of a desktop and Deploy to Multiple Machines?
I have Symantec ghost which I would like to learn how to create an image of my current laptop and then use the same imagie to deploy to 4 laptops but I ideally I want to configure them so they wouldn't need to manually join the domain and hardly any post config's as you would do with a fresh install of an OS.
What owuld be the best way to achieve this?
Capture Image of XPS 15 L521X
I'm trying to capture an image of windows 7 on a Dell XPS 15 L521X with a 32GB SSD and 500GB HDD that uses Intel Smart Response Technology so Windows is installed on the HDD and it uses the SSD for caching. I had problems when trying to install Windows because it wouldn't see the drives without the ISRT drivers loaded. When trying to capture an image with Ghost I see a drive but it is only 32MB (<-- NOT gigs!). Is there a way to load the ISRT drivers on the same boot disk for ghost or some other way to capture an image of a hybrid drive like this? I haven't been able to find anything about it online.
Ghost.exe (DOS) Internal Error 36000
Hi there.
I have a disk with some bad sectors and I can usually use Ghost to clone those, to at least get the contents out. But...I've tried using both Ghost 11.0.2 and 11.5.1 to get a clone from this disk, and they both crash at the same file, at the same place, with the same error. I've tried just about every switch which I could think of, and it still crashes hard.
What to do? I know that Ghost hasn't seen an update for years, and the latest version seems to crash more easily than 11.0.2, but it would be really cool if it would be more prone to errors like this:
GHOSTERR.TXT contents has been attached as a file to this forum entry.
Ghost - WinPE wont load driver (no ip address)
I am currently attempting to get the NIC card working for a USB ghost boot disk. (Still getting the 127.0.0.1 ip address)
Started with
x:\ghost\GhDplyAw32.exe /target=c:\Windows /ddb=e:\windrivers
Recieved
Installing Device:
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_E0001458&REV_06
with
C:\Windows\inf\oem7.inf
matching on
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&REV_06
Windows c:\windows
Success
After completing the operation I get a link light on the switch but not on the back of the machine I am attempting to get an IP address too so that i can pull an image to a remote ghost cast server.
I have attempted to do the following
wpeutil initializeNetwork (Said success but nothing happened)
various IP Config Commands
various netsh commands
not sure how to continue , so i thought i would put this up and try to get some community ideas.
Windows 7 can not be installed on this hardware error
Hello There,
I hope somebody can help me out with this problem I'm having. After I run deploy anywhere with evaluation and retargeting of drivers being successful, the computer restarts and runs sysprep, right half way through devices installation a message pops up saying Windows can not be installed on this hardware. I'm at a loss here since the retargeting was successful. Any ideas?
Ghost 11.5 USB boot not loading network
I have created a USB boot through the ghost boot wizrd. I am using WinPe. The network portion is not loading at all. Once ghost comes up, I can run the drvload command with the driver that I added to WinPE and the driver loads and I get an IP from DHCP. I know it's not the driver, so what am I missing? I have it set to map a network drive using proper credentials as well. Not sure what I am missing.
Bootable DVD, fails with External HDD connected
I am very new to this forum and to the Ghost software and to add I am not part of IT. I am CAD Administrator \ Design Engineer that will be doing training and needed a solution to re-image 6 PC's each time training is completed. So our IT decided to go with Ghost, since they have never used it, nor have I.
Now that you have a little background about myself here is the problem. I have been having a hard time getting my head around the software. I did finally find one of our IT techs to help me to create the Bootable DVD. Now that I have the DVD he said it should be really easy to create the image. Just plug in the External HDD and when the menus appear select it and save your image to that HDD. If it helps at all,l I am trying to image a Laptop (Dell M4700) using Windows 7.
Turns out when the USB External HDD (Western Digital My Book 3TB) is plugged in the DVD boots right to a DOS Prompt path and stays there, it never launches the Ghost menus. I tried to browse to the ghost32.exe file and launch it, but the window pops up for a split second and shuts down. If I unplug the External HDD it works fine., but I cannot save it anywhere else because there is not enough room for the image to be created.
I am using the latest Ghost Suite 2.5, but have not seen any solutions for this sort of behavior yet.
Any suggestions?
Best Regards,
Scott
Remoteexec being Non-interactive
Hi,
I am trying to start a Clone task remotely.
When i do it normally after logging in to the server machine, this is how the processes look:
Local Login :
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Image Name PID Session Name Session# Mem Usage Status User Name CPU Time Window Title
========================= ======== ================ =========== ============ =============== ================================================== ============ ========================================================================
ngserver.exe 6696 Console 0 17,476 K Unknown NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM 0:00:01 N/A
ngcons.exe 6212 Console 0 14,608 K Running mydomain\myusername 0:00:00 Symantec Ghost Console
GhostSrv.exe 6660 Console 0 3,404 K Running mydomain\myusername 0:00:00 CR2GALDIBAS62push36 - Symantec GhostCast Server
When i try to run the same task using PSEXEC remotely (using the command psexec.exe \\serverip -accepteula -i -u mydomain\myusername -p mypass C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\Ghost\ngcons.exe /e DDriveTask ), below is what i get :
Image Name PID Session Name Session# Mem Usage Status User Name CPU Time Window Title
========================= ======== ================ =========== ============ =============== ================================================== ============ ========================================================================
ngserver.exe 6696 Console 0 19,156 K Unknown NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM 0:00:02 N/A
GhostSrv.exe 6232 Console 0 3,252 K Unknown mydomain\myusername 0:00:00 N/A
So it looks like the ghostsrv.exe needs to be triggered by the Ghost Console for it to be interactive and visible.
Is there an alternative way so that i can trigger the task remotely, and later login the server machine using the same id and see the ghostcast session in progress ?
(Something in the com object?)
Stuck on "Windows is Loading Files" when loading from boot image using Symantec Ghost Solution Sutie 2.5.1
Hi,
I am new to this community and have just recently started working with Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.1 Trial Version and I ran into a problem where I create a boot image to restore a Windows XP OS and when I try to boot on the faulty computer from the disk image, all I see is the progress bar "Windows is Loading Files' go to the end, and then when it reaches the end it just hangs there. I left it for quite some time (few hours) and still nothing. I do not see any evidence of it even getting as far as opening the start.bat file. I have tried to include all the necessary drivers, so I do not think that is the issue. Am I possibly missing some essential settings that prevent the computer from moving on to start the restore? My concern is that I might be missing someting when I am going through the Boot Wizard to create the recovery disk. Please comment or respond if you are familiar with this issue, with any tips/suggestions of what I should try. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
-Regards, Alex
Licensing
Hi,
My company is about to purchase Ghost Suite, but are unsure of what / how many licenses we need to purchase. My experience, we had a license for Ghost and that was it, there was no need for an image license or such. We need to maintain a production image of our basic server to update periodically; do we need a license for each server we need to make an image of or create an image for, or do we only need to purchase the application, and license for it?
Thanks in advance
Ghost can't access Windows 7 Share from DOS boot
I have created a USB DOS boot stick for a PC roll-out we are executing at our company
I could not use the multi-boot because Dell has it's own proprietary drivers, but I got around that
My question is this - when our image share was connected to a Windows XP server (secondary hard drive installed in server), we were able to map a drive to it and use one-off ghost imaging. Now that it is on a Windows 7 server, the share is inaccessible from the DOS boot screen. I can use GhostCast Server, so I know the network is connected. For some reason, I get a message that the userid/password has not been validated (sometimes), which we didn't see in the XP days, but ghostcast server still works
Any thoughts on this?
Ghostcast Progress % using COM
Is there a way to get a ghostcast session's progress % (other than from ngserver.log) programmatically?
I'm not a COM expert, but i've figured out few COM things by trail and error (like getting is a machine is connected\disconnected , starting tasks, etc...).
I was browsing the com object and saw IMulticastServerNotify has a SessionProgress(Integer,Integer) method.
Is there a way i can call this to get the progress %? (Or is this used to set the % in the ghostcast UI).
Ghost Cast Server 11.5 Issues?
I updated my computers(xp pro sp3 delloptiplex 745) and when i did this I took on computer of the network and disjoined it from the domain and renamed it ghostcopy. (do I have to do this everytime I want to create a image and then restore it to another machine?)
I then proceded to create a new image of this system all went well with the new image.
I then had 3 computers that I wanted to use this image with the computers are already off the network so I just hooked one up and pushed the new image to the machine well it worked except for 2 things
1. I cant change the name of the computer from ghostcopy to the name I want it to be to put back on the network how do i fix this?
2nd. The system settings change popup keeps coming up ??? How do i fix this?
Do you need to sysprep the machines first?
Thanks in advance
