Distribute Image Task with Multicast fails to Image

I need a solution

I have been working on getting our new ghost server set up using GSS 3.0 HF3, and have run into difficulty distributing our image using multicast.

When  I distribute the image without the multicast option selected on the options screen for a task, the image deploys to the desired machines with no problem...but it seems that this puts more load on the server than need be so I would like to get the multicast working.

If I select either of the multicast options (session or peer-to-peer) the computers restart into automation, but then exit out of the ghost client after a minute or so and reboot back into windows.  The computer displays the DAgent Service window, but it never opens ghost64.exe to attempt to connect to the cast session.

I thought this might be related to a new switch we had recently installed, so I manually set up a ghostcast session and joined each machine to it manually through a ghost boot usb.  The ghostcast worked as intended and imaged the machines on the cast.  So it shouldnt be a problem with our network setup blocking multicast or anything like that.  It must be a configuration problem on either the server or client, but I am not sure what to look for at this point.

Any thoughts or ideas on my problem, or has anyone else run into something similar?

Software Deployment via GSS?

I need a solution

Can anyone explain to me how i can deploy software using GSS 3.0?

To my understanding this is indeed something that can be done, however most info i find is dated.

I know there is PC transplant which would work well if a PC in the environment goes down, however i'm more concerned atm about new PC's going out to production. Atm we use several images for various different departments. I'm hoping to cut back on this and use one standard blank image. Once a blank image has been sent to a PC, i could then hopefully assign this PC a job (or several jobs) for different software needed for the specific department the PC is going to.

My end goal workflow would simply be, Unbox PC > image PC > send jobs for software install via GSS > deploy.

Is this possible?

I appreciate any help/advise.

Running a server-side job I get a popup:

Database error:

Transaction (Process ID 67) was deadlocked on lock resources with

transaction.

If I click on retry the console stops. However, the job still executes succesfully.

Any help appreciated.

Can't choose WinPE (32 bit)

I need a solution

I have installed WinPE 5.X (x86) in the Boot Disk Creator and it's status is showing up as installed under the boot disk creator but when I try to use the x86 version when creating tasks in the System Console the only options are to use Auto Select or the 64 bit version.

I tried using Auto Select on an x86 machine and it still attempted to use the x64 WinPE version before failing. Is there something else I need to do to get the x86 version to show up on the drop down list?

Thanks,

Domain Join Error -2147463168 Works when retried immediately after

I need a solution

I'm seeing an error during a configuration task when joining a PC to the domain. I have the task set to join the PC at a specific OU and it will fail every time after imaging a PC with the code -2147463168. However, I can retry the task immediately after it has failed and the join will be succesful and it will move the PC into the correct OU.

A search for the error code leads me to the following: "This error occurs when the indicated LDAP path of LDAP BIND requests on objects or ADODB requests are invalid. Maybe you tried to access a non existing object with a GetObject call or there was a typing error in the distinguished name of the demanded object."

That explanation seems inconsistent with the configuration succeeding on an immediate retry, I would expect it to fail repeatedly.

I have rebuilt a new image with the latest DAgent (6.9.1417) and have tried to task set to different OU's with no change. Even running the task with only the domain set fails (or moves the PC to the default Computers OU rather than leaving it where it was originally. That said, a test just now had the dignity to leave it where it was).

I did a search for this error on these forums but didn't turn up much. Especially nothing that worked intermittently as I'm getting.

Assistance with custom installation, network file share, and boot disk creator

I need a solution

I thought I had followed instructions properly, by reading the support documentation and watching the videos provided, but a few parts of my setup aren't working.

I have GSS 3.0 HF4 running on a virtual 2012 R2 server. I have the server and console installed on the same server. During the custom installation, I specified the network path that we want to use for image and other file storage. Why is it that the entire installation of GSS 3 now seems to be on that network file share instead of on the server I initiated the installation on?

Since that installation, I get 'Boot Disk Creator does not support the requested operation' when I attempt to create automation partitions or any other boot media. (I am running the Boot Disk Creator from within the Console, and not the standalone version.) Most options are greyed out and I get that error message just before 'Preparing install environment' attempts to run.

I have been able to create automation partitions on prior GSS 3 installations that did not have a custom path to a file share in the initial custom setup. However, those automation partitions would not map to any drive I specified during the Boot Disk Creator build, and I got error 99 messages when attempting to distribute images. The only way I have been able to get an automation partition to work and create and distribute images is to have GSS 3 and default file share locations all on C:\. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Simple jobs like software installations, scripts, files transfers, etc., work fine with all GSS 3 installations I've done.

I'm having multiple problems here and I hope it's just something basic I've overlooked. I'd appreciate some guidance. With the holiday break approaching, it's likely that I will not be able to respond to questions/comments until Jan. 4.

Thanks very much.

Hi just wondering if there is anyway to control the agent upgrade after migration to GSS, documentation says "The existing clients that are connected to the Ghost Solution Suite server automatically start upgrading with the latest version of the Ghost Solution Suite agent. "

How can I make sure agents do not upgrade automatically after the upgrade?

Windows 10 deployed via Symantec Ghost 3.0 HF4 - Support for Dual Display Orientation

$

I need a solution

Hello,
I'm working on setting up a classroom environment, in which all of the machines are deployed via Ghost/Altiris 3.0 HF4 with Windows 10.
My images deploy flawlessly, with 1 exception. We are using dual monitors; 1 monitor in Landscape, the other in Portrait. On the source machine, the displays are configured properly, however, when I snap the image, and then redeploy it, the orientation is set to landscape on all of the target machines.

These machines are all identical hardware, identical monitors, and all the drivers are up to date. I even went as far as resetting the monitors settings, and trying the config from within the ATI Control Center, and it still drops the monitor orientation.

Can anyone direct me on if there is a way to set this orientation, so that I don't need to reset it by hand after the image is deployed everytime? I'd like to be able to do this natively if possible. Is there a regkey I can set? I'm not opposed to installing a magical piece of software to do it, but if I can accomplish this without installing something, that would be preferred.

Thank you all for your help!

Chris

"Help" Can't push an agent to a windows 10 PC

Thank you for the show yesterday.  I look forward to this coming out.

I have a couple of questions that were not addressed yesterday (or in the other thread before it was locked)

1) I know you said the images are backwards compatible.  However.  With GSS 3.0 being Altiris 6.9, do the 3.0 endpoints need a new client, or will the GSS 2.5.1 client phone home to the GSS 3.0 console?

2) Will more than 1 person be able to use the same GSS 3.0 console at the same time?  I know this is not currently doable in 2.5.

Thanks!

Sorry, the last post was messed up.

Anyways, I am trying to push an agent to a windows 10 PC and I get the 'The network path was not found.' . Unable to connect to computer XXXX with username (removed) .

The username in question has administrative rights and the proper password, firewall is turned off, UAC is off, PC is part of the domain etc. What else do I need to do to make this work?

I saw someone post this very same problem, but no one gave them a solution to the problem.

What needs to be done. "HELP"

Network Drive Requirement

$

I need a solution

In the past in our environment we've utilized multiple smaller workstations running Windows 7 to serve as Ghost Consoles with v2.5.  This has served us well for many years.

One problem we are running into now when using GSS 3.0 is the mapped network drive requirement.  In order to perform any imaging work via the Automation Folder the workstation has to boot to WinPE, map a network drive, launch Ghost and then image.  If you use Windows 7 as your 'server' you are limited to a maximum of 20 mapped drive connections (in practice closer to 15) and therefore a maximum of 20 workstations per GhostCast Multicast session.

My question is why isn't there an option to roll the imaging tools into the WinPE environment within the Automation Folder?  During the Boot Disk Creator process the user is prompted with an option to "Run existing WinPE 5.X automation agent contained in the local pre-boot environment." for the Automation Agent Location so why not do the same with the imaging tools?

Has anyone else tried a similar setup and experienced the same issue?  Were you able to resolve it?  If so please share how.

I know that the "Best Practice" would be to utilize a true Windows Server.  Unfortunately Server licenses cost money and office policies and politics prevent desktop administrators from having access to server operating systems.

Need assistance with adding drivers to GhostCast Server v 11.5.1.2266

I need a solution

Hello all,

I have been in a fight with my GhostCast server for the past few weeks with attempting to add drivers to the WinPE Pre-OS boot file. I have followed the tutorial on this forum, with several attempts made to get the drivers to function so that their corresponding computers will be able to connect to the server and deploy/backup the image(s) for them. I have been unable to get any additional drivers to function, past how my WinPE is currently setup. I have attempted to add Lenovo, Dell and HP drivers with no success. Any advice/assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have followed the how-to video on how to create a standalone boot disk.  I followed it to a tee basically and have added the Ghost folder under both the configuration and the WinPE 5.x Additional Files folder.  However, when I try to create a standalone boot disk, the Ghost folder is always left out of the ISO.  What am I doing wrong? Is this a known issue?  Seemed to work for the guy in the video.
