Need to access norton ghost files

I need a solution

Hi

I have windows 10 machine.  I used norton ghost and norton backup/recovery (as part of their suite) on my older xp machine.  I need to access the ghost files.    Bascially, I need to access the files and once I have access then I will transfer them to an external drive (without using ghost).

I just found out that the consumer one has been discontinued so I cannot use it.  If I have to use the business one then that is an acceptable solution.

How can I access the ghost files?

Thanks

polling for bound server

I need a solution

Hi !

I recently install GSS 2.5 client on a windows XP and when I try to execute an image task, the client reboot but then displays endlessly "polling for bound server". I already had this issue before and it was about NIC driver missing but this time I am sure that the NIC driver is in my WinPE packet (I added it before starting the task). Any ideas ?

Thank you for your help.

Connecting Newer Computers to Ghost Cast Session

I need a solution

I was looking to deploy our latest image to a Lenove T460s. It doesn't connect to my Ghost Cast Session. It boots into the ghost environment, and searches for the session but never finds it. I can see that the Client session does not have any attempts to connect.

I most likely belive it is because the Vista Drivers for the T460s aren't on our Ghost server(? console? not sure of the proper term for where the drivers live). But we have added the oldest drivers we could find for the T460s to the server location, but still can not connect to the session.

We are using PXE Boot, GhostCastServer 11.5.x.

Is there any work around? I know we had a similar issue with the T450s and Symantec Techs provided a new environment with the drivers, but i gave them a call this time around and they did not want to work with us as we are out of date and out of warranty

Any help would be great.

Problems deploying images of Win7 machines

I need a solution

I've commented on this in my other (long and tedious) thread about other issues with GSS3.1 but as I'm getting desperate, I'll try a fresh thread as well.

Basically, I can no longer deploy images taken from Win7 machines. The machines and images are unchanged, as are the tasks...yet now, if I try to deploy an image that worked a couple of weeks ago, the target machine will end up saying it has no OS installed.

I was having the same issue with a couple of Win10 images I had as well but have managed to get usable images from a Win10 (I think) using the NTEXACT, NTIL and NTIC switches when creating the image.

This has to be related to the UEFI/GPT thing but I have no idea why images that worked 2 weeks ago will no longer install onto the EXACT SAME target machines.

For clarity, nothing has been changed on the target machines since the image was created and last deployed successfully. It's possible that I applied MP2 between the images working and not working but I can't be 100% sure about that. The notes for MP2 are sparse.....

Is it possible to roll back the MP2 installation?  I DO NOT want to have to start from scratch at this stage!!

Anyone??  Please!!

TFL.

I need a solution

Is there a way to determine if the Ghost software was used to clone a hard drive, via USB?  Does it leave a registry setting?  I found some added "Disk" info in the register (HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\enum\IDE) but it is inconsistent and does not really say ghost was used.  I think it may put something in the boot volume sector but I do not have the forensic tools to verify this.

Thank you,

Robert

PXE Manager Service has not connected with GSS Server Yet

I need a solution

After upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1 the PXE manager is failing to work properly.

When I go to the PXE Configuration utility I see the "PXE Manager Service has not connected with the GSS Server yet" .

I find no stopped services that would account for this.

Any ideas?

Client passwords not matching what is set in the console.

I need a solution

Having a strange problem where when we set a password in the colsole (production agent settings > password protect admin properties from user) and password I set doesn't work on the client.

I've tried something as simple as the letter "a".  I can remove the password in the console and it's gone from the client right away.  Then set it back... and it has a password... just not what I typed.

We have just moved to a new server.  Old server was GSS 3.1 - SQL 2008 - Windows Server 2008r2, new server is GSS 3.1 - SQL 2014 (Windows Server 2008r2).  I exported the old eXpress database from SQL 2008, imported to the new server in SQL2014 and then installed GSS 3.1.  No problems, everything seemed to come across fine.

The server has a different name and IP address to the OLD server.  Clients are all Windows 8.1.

I've tried removing the client from the console and having default client settings with the password.  I've tried removing the console and having no default client setting then adding it later.

It doesn't matter what I do the password I type in the colsole doesn't seem to translate corretly to the client.

Is there anything that stands out that would be causing this issue?

Ghost Solutions Suite 3.1 PXE Boot Without Agent

I need a solution

Here is my situation. At work we have Ghost Solution Suite 3.1 set up. Customers send us images and we use this setup to install a basic backed up Ghost image to multiple units. We dont edit the images in any way, we just use Ghostcast to install to multiple systems.

I have done away with using boot USBs by using the PXE server that comes with the suite. My problem is whenever I create boot files within PXE configuration utility I am given "Automation" as the only option for boot. This method always seems to include a Dagent software during the Ghostcast session. Since we dont own these machines I dont want this to happen, I dont want anything else saved onto these systems.

My work around so far is to create a Network boot USB and then copy and paste the boot.wim image into the PXE boot folder previously created. This works for what I want however it just seems like a lot of steps to get it done.

My question is if there is any way to disable the inclusion of dagent so that I can just use the PXE boot file creation method? From what I have read the dagent is if we were deploying systems within our own company and being able to connect to them afterwards. I dont really need this since we dont own these.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

GSS 3.1 : shutting down DHCP Client

I need a solution

Hello,

I'm facing a big problem, it's now 2 times that when imaging multiple computers some (like nearly all) of them at some point of the configuration task get their DHCP Client service deactivated. The result is computer with random names "win-etc", joined to the domain (but they are not realy joined).

If i put the DHCP Client service on automatic start and reboot the task will try to do the configuration but will fail with "network path not found error code 53".

I realy don't understand what's going on, i had 42 computers done without any trouble and now for 40 computers only 13 had been succesfull :(

The task is a imaging one + deployanywhere + configuration.

Thx in advance.

BWPkgs vs. AutoFolderPkgs

I need a solution

The video tutorial Creating and Installing an Automation Folder in Ghost Solution Suite 3.1 said to:

1. Use Boot Disk Creator to create an automation folder configuration and then

2. Right click on the folder and Create Partition Installer (that creates and foldername.exe in the eXpress\BWPkgs\WinPE 10.0\x64 directory) and then

3. Right click on the computername and Install Automation Folder which brings a dropdown that lists the configuration created in Step 1

Now, I thought that it would install the installer that was created in Step 2, but it didn't! It created a new AF_foldername.exe in the eXpress\AutoFolderPkgs\configurationname\X64 directory and installed that.

Can someone please clarify for me? Am I wasting my time and disk space on Step 2?

Thanks

Can't restore Norton Ghost 2003 image

I need a solution

Hello,

I could not find a NG 2003 forum but decided to post my question anyway.

I have an image for an old system (XP) than I need to restore to a brand new drive.

The image was originally created using DOS onto a network share and contains a total of 238 files (1 GHO + 237 GHS, 650MB each).

The connection to the share was done using Bart's Network Boot Disk. I have been using this setup for years to backup and restore without a single problem.

Until now. I have been trying to restore this particular image for about a week, using different HW setup, but every time it stops, "freezes" at 45% (same GHS file but not always the same "Current file" actually being restored). I am getting no error message, it just stops.

When opening the image with Ghost Explorer, Ghost Explorer just disappears after a while (I guess crashes) again with no errors.

At this point, I was not sure if it was a HW or SW issue and decided to restore an older image (6 months older) to the same HW and had no problem.

The image in question even passes the Integrity Check!! I am at loss and was really hoping to get more suggestions, things to try.

Thank you in advance.

George

Ghost cast: Connection reset by peer

I need a solution

Hello,

I have run into a problem with my Ghostcast sessions.  I have found a work around but I would like to figure out the root of the problem.   When I set up my Ghost cast server on a Z series workstation that is registered with a fixed IP address the connection is reset once I connect a few client machines.

My work around is that I use a laptop which does not have a registered IP (the only real difference I can think of) both the workstation and laptop are running all the same settings and programs. It seems to me of more of a network issue but I'm not sure.  If anyone knows of some trouble shooting steps to get to the botton of this one it would be greatly appreciated.

here is a snippit from the log when the reset occurs:

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Hi.

Ive run into a problem where i work.

We bought 30 new HP elitedesk 800 G2 which i would like to image. Im using 2.5 with the 3com tools. Im trying to boot with PC-DOS

But when i try i get stuck at the Transferring Image. Can this be driver related? im using the universal packet driver 2.0.

The nic in these computers are named intel i219-LM.

We also have some HP elitedesk 800 G1 with intel i217-LM, here the image i have created works perfektly. also our 5 years old HP DC7900 works with the same pxe/sys file.

Are there any newer Universal packet driver availeble?

File This Under Weird - PXE Stops TFTP Transmission When Display Is Disconnected

I need a solution

I am bringing the PXE server online (Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 3.1 Build 502) using the integrated Altiris PXE Server software.

Once I had everything up and running I was very disappointed with the transfer speeds (getting ~100-200 Kbps) to get the PE files downloaded onto the client and boot into a Windows environment.

A little bit of searching revealed "Double Your PXE Boot Speed!" http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/double-your-pxe-boot-speed written by a Symantec Employee, advising to not use Altiris PXE MTFTP Server, and instead replace it with OpenTFTP (gotta love it!).

Once I had the necessary configs down, I was able to pull down 20 Mbps! I was so excited that I went ahead and switched over to the other PC I had on my KVM and got that guy going to. This is where the weirdness started.

When I switched back to the original PC, I found that the transfer had again slowed to a crawl (forehead meet desk). And worse, when I checked on the second PC, it too went to a crawl.  I checked around the forums and everything pointed to adjusting the block size. First I went big as suggested here (http://www.alexandreviot.net/2015/07/09/sccm-2012-how-to-increase-tftp-pxe-boot-speed/), then started going small as I kept having issues with the speeds cutting out whenever I switched over to the second PC and got that going.

Now some of you might be thinking "Its the network!" Well that was where I was going, but had no desire to go down that rabbit hole. So I took a beat and said to my self, what exactly is happening here?

1. Start PXE Boot on PC 1

2. Verify Speed on Server as 20+

3. KVM to PC 2

4. Start PXE Boot on PC 2

5. Verify Speed on Server and see in history that PC 1 dropped off

That's when I realized that it had nothing to do with turning on PC 2!

For those who do not follow, start on 1, see speed, switch to PC 2, see speed cut out.

It was the switching of inputs/outputs!!!!!

(Audible whack of forehead into closest wall)

Sure enough, I can reliably get the transfer to slow to a crawl by removing the display port cable on the rear of the PC (USB does not seem to affect it)

What I am working with:

Dell Optiplex 3040 Micro with a Realtek PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Driver on dell website has file name Network_Driver_9YMJF_WN64_2.43.2015.709_A00.EXE)

Does anyone have an idea as to how I can switch displays without killing the downloads???
