Need to access old recovery images

I need a solution

Hi

I have to access old backups created using norton products.  I cannot say 100% which version was used.  I will list the products I have used and hopefully that is enough to help determine how I can access those images:

-Norton System Works 2006 Premier (it has Ghost)

-Norton System Works 10.0 and 11.0

-Norton Ghost (the label at the bottom says NG 15.0 and it was made in 2009)

I recall there being a backup option where the images were stored on my laptop.  However, I stopped relying on them and instead opted to have them stored on external drives.

I don't see Norton System Works being sold anymore and I don't see Ghost either.  There is an enterprise version of Ghost but I don't know that I can access the images.

Is there a way to access the back up images created from the programs I listed?  I am using windows 10 pro currently.

Thanks

Bluescree - Bugcode USB3 DRV

I need a solution

I received a boot stick with Ghost 11 from my predecessor for cloning my demo image. For the first boots two month ago everything wents fine, but now, when I boot from the USB stick, Windows PE starts and after a few seconds I get a blue screen with the message "Bugcode USB3 DRV". Since the machine is up for a few seconds only before the blue screen appears I'm wondering how to copy the needed driver files into the windows image.

...And I don't know where to copy driver files since I don't have that much experience with Ghost and the boot sticks created for Ghost.

Any help is appreciated.

Client Status on server console...

I need a solution

Hello -

I have GSS 3.2 on our server.  We push the images over the network to the clients.

Is it possible to see the percentage complete for the images on the clients (without walking to the clients of course)?

Also, we have a weird once in a while issue where the jobs start, it looks to be deploying the image, but in reality, the client may be stuck on a screen to force mount the drive, and we have to hit yes to continue.  We are already using the -SURE switch in our image process, which *should* continue without interaction.  It seems to be random.  We've started rebooting the PC's prior to pushing the images, and it didn't seem to matter.  It's only once in a while and I can't seem to find a reason why.

Thanks for any help.

Could not authenticate network connection in WinPE x64

I need a solution

Hello,

I am experiencing similar issue as in the following link https://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/could-not-authenticate-network-connection-system-error-85-has-occured

I am 100% sure about my network credentials. The problem only occurs on WinPE 10 x64 booted in UEFI mode. The same PC, in the same subnet using the same credentials in WinPE 4.0 booted in legacy mode works fine.

I use the following mapping in the PXE disk creator:

I: "\\%ALTIRIS_PXE_SERVER%\Image"
K: "\\%ALTIRIS_PXE_SERVER%\SVRImage"
Q: "\\GSSServer\eXpress"

What I found in command line is the %ALTIRIS_PXE_SERVER% is not reachable when try to ping it. The IP of PXE is responding fine.

I tried to replace the %ALTIRIS_PXE_SERVER% token with %ALTIRIS_PXE_IP% with no luck. The error is "Could not authenticate network connection" and my network drives are not mapped. Surprisingly enough the Express share is mapped correctly.

I edited and recompiled the PXE images many times with no progress.

Any ideas before I open a ticket with Symantec support?

Thanks

Tomasz

Ghost 3.1 Console freezes when restoring an Image

When Distributing an Image to 12 computers using Ghost Cast server with multicasting the restoring process continues to freeze without any errors given. I reach about 12 to 15 % before it freezes?? So far I have not had an issue with per to per multicasting however my imaging job takes much longer to complete. hours for a 12gb image to compete ...?

Any Idea on what I should try next?  Does 3.1 have an error log I can look at or enable?

Hey,

Looking to remotely install the current version of pxe via script.  In the past we used pxe.exe and an setup.iss with a command line of somthing like this:

pxe.exe -s -f1c:\altiris\setup.iss -f2C:\altiris\test.log

Doesn't seem to work with the current package, still works ok if we use the old ds6.9 package and let things update but am hoping to update the process.  I can't seem to manually run pxe.exe either and pretty sure I used to.

Thanks

I need a solution

Hi all,

I'm deploying Windows 10 Professional on multiple clients and they need specific names and specific microsoft licenses.

So I want to do the following:

If client has mac address xxx assign the name yyy and license zzz. Is there any way to do so?

I've already tried to create a configuration job by Add -> Modify Configuration, but almost all of the input boxes like Name, Computername, ... are greyed out.

Best regards

WAKE ON LAN (WOL) NOT WORKING - GSS 3.2

I need a solution

Hello,

Wake on lan (wol) is not working in my gss 3.2 console. I can't figure out since when, but now is not working. I tested with a external program and the servers subnet broadcast is passing throught to other subnets on the network, so it's not a network problem. My windows clients have the virtual box virtual network adapter but i think this is not the problem!!!????

What can we do about it???

GSS - Adding drivers to be installed after image

$

I need a solution

So our current situation is that we have a working image that we can deploy no problem to our computers. Everything from older Win7 machines (HP, lenovo thinkcenter), to Lenovo T460s laptops (still putting Win7 on them).

We ordered some Lenvo T470s machines to test with. The same CPU (i5-6200U, 6300U or i7-6600U), samsung nvme ssd, etc. However, after pushing an image to a 470s windows will not boot fully. It gets to the little splash screen that would normally show the Windows logo - and then it freezes, blue screens, and reboots. (and as a side note, now we can't boot to anything network or usb - just loops back to the BIOS)

I've followed posts/forums/videos for adding drivers to GSS, most of which were already there. Not sure if we're missing something, or why the same image would not work on a T470s that has the same CPU and nvme ssd that our T460s machines have (unless I missed a key spec).

I know that Windows 7 does not come with the necessary drivers by default (i.e. NVMe drivers and USB 3 drivers), but we can push to the Lenovo T460s machiens just fine which have NVMe SSDs, USB3, etc.

Any thoughts? Or suggestions?

We are trying to get Ghost up and running, and I am having no luck finding the files for the LinuxPE pre-boot OS. I looked all through the install files and am coming up empty-handed. Searching here has lead to dead ends. What am I missing?

Rdeploy Images with GSS

I need a solution

All of our images are saved in a .exe format with Rdeploy.  Is there a way to migrate them to GSS so that we do not have to use 2 different boot media's? 1 for GSS and 1 for Rdeploy. Only option I can thing of is to track down all the old machines and image with Rdelpoy and upload the sysprepped image with GSS.

A Face-Lift for GSS Automation Wallpapers...

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

So I will start this post out by saying that I am a huge fan of Altiris Deployment Solution and Ghost Solution Suite.  I have been using ADS/GSS for a little over 5 years and while it hasn’t always been the smoothest solution, I will say that it has been a solid product.  One disappointment has been the lack of updates to the interface.  I realize that Symantec has promised to update the interface as GSS continues to evolve, but I thought I might give them a head start on at least one portion of that.

For starters the wallpaper Symantec has been using in the ADS/GSS/SMP automation environment is literally like 10 years old, maybe more.  It is of square/letterbox aspect ratio - 4:3, and it is also super low resolution - 640x480.  When it loads up on a system that is reimaging the wallpaper is stretched horribly and just looks like something from the 90’s.  Since most monitors today are widescreen and very high resolution it makes the wallpaper look even worse on most modern equipment.

My attempt to modernize this eyesore was to create a high definition widescreen wallpaper that was simple yet elegant.  But I also wanted to try and give Ghost Solution Suite a sort of official branding, something I feel they are lacking at this point.

When you look at other Symantec products, Symantec has done a really good job of creating official modern logos and branding for most of their other products which looks consistent and polished when you market the product line-up.   With GSS however, the product was kind of the death of one product and the rebranding of another product so when you look for logos and official branding, it’s all over the place.

I tried my best to make this look like something Symantec themselves came up with.  I absolutely in no way intend any copyright infringement, nor do I seek any compensation for my work.  I just wanted the automation environment to look more modern out of box.  If you like wallpapers, I encourage you download them and replace the old dated ones.

If you don't already know, the wallpapers get placed in the following location(s):

     \\%SERVER%\eXpress\Bootwiz\platforms\%WINPE%\%CPU%\Optional\Boot

Here are some technical details about the wallpapers:

  • Resolution is 1920x1080 (Widescreen)
  • Includes both locked and unlocked versions
  • Includes both .jpg and .bmp file types
  • Created using official symantec logos/artwork (google.com)

Ok, I will stop rambling now and show you what I’ve made…

Just for reference...here are the originals:

Original - Locked

Original - Unlocked

And here are my custom wallpapers running in a vm so you can see what they look like at non-native resolution...

Custom Gold - Locked

These blue colored logo wallpapers was just me messing around... but I do like them better than the gold. :-P

Restoring Computer-DESCRIPTION possible

I need a solution

Hi Folks!

I asked this a few month ago, when it was not possible.

I use GSS on my existing Windows 7 Clients. I will role out Windows 10 to these existing Clients (no Hardware-Change).
After that I need to restore the Configuration the Clients had under Windows 7 (Name, IP, Domain-Join).

I also need to restore the Compuer-DESCRIPTION. Is that possible with GSS now?

Thanks in forward!
