I need a solution

Hi All,

I’m using WinPE 3.1 with Ghost 11.5

I’m able to create an image of whole disk that has 3.3 TB (GPT drive) - as disk!
However cannot create image of a partition inside that disk that has 2.5 TB, a smaller partition on the same volume (disk) of 0.9 TB does not show any problem to be Imaged.

The version of the Ghost32 bit

Does anyone have an idea way I cannot create an image of single partition 2.5 TB?

Thanks

I need a solution

Hi,

I have recently taken a backup using Ghost Migration Wizard. After taking backup, i have realized it has many old user profiles. So i try 'Extracting' just the Only User i wanted, But the Only choice available was to save Each file Separetly, and this was a time Consuming Way. I would like to know if there is any possibilty to extract files of a certain user only? WITHOUT saving each files separatly.

Thank you

I need a solution

Hello.

I always create a boot usb pendrive from boot wizard and i have edit winpe-512 to include nic drivers without problems. Now i need include usb 3.0 drivers four our news motherboards and i have downloaded from intel usb 3.0 drivers.http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19880&keyword=usb+3.0&lang=eng

This file is one exe, but if i uncompress it, i can see a lot of files. I'm finding for a .inf  file and then i select edit winpe-512 -> storage drivers-> add new driver then i select x86 folder and vista, but i get failed to import driver a failed to find any drivers to add.

Any one can help me?

Boot Wizard can't / won't install .inf driver C600/X79 SATA device

I need a solution

Boot Wizard complains when I try to add a driver for the C600/X79 Intel SATA device into the Win PE 512 driver set.

The storage issue is complicated by the fact that the drives are connected to the system in a Dell PERC raid configuration.  This implies "two storage" drivers are needed.  I have found and installed the PERC driver and the NIC driver.  I now receive errors only on the intel C600/X79 chipset driver for SATA controller - AND, I can use the existing driver set via PXE to capture and deploy to these systems but NOT the Ghost Console.

Possibilities gleaned from perusing this forum include:

Malformed driver file - newer versions of the driver will install, but will not work.

MSXML6.DLL missing - I checked for this and this file is present on my server.

I have found that the device ID is not present in the file that will install but not work, and is present in the driver file that WON'T install:

The line in the driver file specifying the exact device :

[INTEL_HDC]
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1D02.DeviceDesc%=intelahci,PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1D02

does not appear in the NEW drivers, and thus when attempting to use that, Ghost fails to boot to the virtual partition on the basis that this driver is not found.  However, Ghost fails to install the driver from the older driver pacakage that specifies the device "8086&DEV_1D02" with the error :

And adding the line to the file to tell the newer driver to manage this device also fails with the error:

"Following drivers had problems installing to Windows PE"  Error Code 0x3

I have tried installing the same drivers into the MS DOS PE environment as well, in case the older files might be more compatible.  The same failure occured.

Is there a way to integrate a stand-alone driver, the name in this case is "intelahci.inf" with no other metadata around it into the PE?

OR.

Is there a way to ratchet down Ghost Console's error checking?

Switch File contents for Multicasting

I need a solution

I am trying to automate Ghosting via Multi-Casting - specifically Uni-casting since in most cases I'm only doing one machine at a time.  Multi-casting doesn't work the way it used to since we upgraded our Core Router.   As such I need to specify the fullowing parameters via the Ghost or Ghost32 User Interface:

Mode: Unicast

Multi-cast session name: AV6300Save

Multicast Server Address 192.168.194.66  (changed to protect the innocent ...)

My Switch File (savec.swi) contains the following lines:

============

-clone,src=2,dst=@MCAV6300Save
-span
-ia
-auto
-JA=AV6300Save
-JADDR=192.168.194.66
-JM=U

============

My ghost Command line is:

Ghost32.exe -script=savec.swi

**** When I run the command above to envoke ghost with the switch file, Ghost32 runs and displays the initial screen and says at the bottom (on the Status line): "Attempting to contact Session <AV6300Save>..."  but never contacts the session  :-(

If I kill the program and run it again CMD>ghost32.exe  without any parameters and specify the needed parameters via the Program UI, it joins the session immediately an starts to upload to the server.

 What am I doing wrong??

This is one area that is not documented very well, the use of a script file.

*** Is the Clone command line really needed if everything is specified by the GhostCast Server session - something that is not touched on in the Docs.

I need a solution

Hello,

If I know already more about Backup Exec licensing, I have no idea which licenses of Symantec Ghost Suite should I choose to protect 1 server and about 25 PCs. I see:

1. Ghost Solution Suite

2. Ghost Solution Suite Var

3. Ghost Solution Suite Server

4. Ghost Solution Suite Server Var

And what is the difference between Var and srandard license in practise for me?

Best regards!

I need a solution

To Virtual Partition
Drivers could not be found in the PreOS for the following devices:

Manufacturer: "@oem5.inf,%intel%;Intel", Description: "@oem5.inf,%---

I've searched the web and have found what I believe to be a solution

I understand how to find and edit the manifest.txt. My prpblem is the the error file (where I need to get information from) scrolls off the right side of the screen. I can read the pci vendor number but I can't read the values of the pci device and pci sub? I've tried everything, copy and paste doesn't work either. Where can I pull this information from, I can't find the error file on the hard drive?

I need a solution

Hello,

We are computer lab staff for the College of Business at a university. We have a few questions that we need answered. We have been getting the run around from support over the phone. So, any assistance will help.

1. We are wondering if it is possible to take an image of Windows 8 using Ghost Solutions Suite 2.5. If so, how can we achieve this? Currently, we only use Win8 in the lab staff office. But, the plan is to eventually push Windows 8 campus-wide, later this year.

2. Can we install Ghost on Windows Server 2012?

3. What is the Ghost updater program for our version or how do we obtain updates?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Strange, Vexing File Preservation Error

I need a solution

Server: Windows Server 2008 R2

Clients: Windows XP SP3 x86

Ghost Suite 2.5 is reeeeeeeeeally pissing me off tonight.  I specified some paths for file/folder preservation, and my task failed with the folowing error:

Date   : Mon Feb 25 21:30:25 2013
Error Number: (677)
Message: The specified destination partition for preserving files/directories is not a valid destination partition for this clone operation.

Command line arguments: -preserveifexists=@MATCHDISK<Volume=<Disk=<DiskModelNumber='WDC WD16 00BJKT-75F4T 11.0',DiskSerialNumber='xxxxx',DiskBiosId=128,DiskSignature9x=3875516416,DiskSignatureNt=927561971>,PartitionOffset=80325>>/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/xxxxx/Config/app.settings -preserveifexists=@MATCHDISK<Volume=<Disk=<DiskModelNumber='WDC WD16 00BJKT-75F4T 11.0',DiskSerialNumber='xxxxx',DiskBiosId=128,DiskSignature9x=3875516416,DiskSignatureNt=927561971>,PartitionOffset=80325>>/Berman OtoTrak -preserveifexists=@MATCHDISK<Volume=<Disk=<DiskModelNumber='WDC WD16 00BJKT-75F4T 11.0',DiskSerialNumber='xxxxx',DiskBiosId=128,DiskSignature9x=3875516416,DiskSignatureNt=927561971>,PartitionOffset=80325>>/Audio Rx OtoTrak -preserveifexists=@MATCHDISK<Volume=<Disk=<DiskModelNumber='WDC WD16 00BJKT-75F4T 11.0',DiskSerialNumber='xxxxx',DiskBiosId=128,DiskSignature9x=3875516416,DiskSignatureNt=927561971>,PartitionOffset=80325>>/Freed OtoTrak -preservedest=1 -clone,dst=1:2,mode=prestore,src=@MCWILSHIREFILESpush122 -batch -sgb -jaddr=192.168.2.60 -sgt

I changed the above 'DiskSerialNumber' and 'Application Data' name to protect the innocent, but otherwise, this is what I got.

The clone task is on clients which each have two partitions.  The clone task is performed on the second partition, (the first partition is a tiny, hidden utility partition).

Does anyone know why I am getting this error about the destination partition for preservation not being valid?

Thanks.

I need a solution

I was able to build my ghost boot CD by adding drivers found on the Intel website:

Intel® RSTe AHCI & SCU Software RAID driver for Windows

I was looking for C600 driver for Vista 32 bits.

It works fine, I can see the SAS drives but my usb is not recognized anymore.

I added the subfolder Drivers\x86\SCU of the intel package through the Ghost BootCD Wizard in the Vista x86 WinPE 512 image.

The Intel support page is saying version 3.5.1.1009 is the latest.

By checking the Windows properties, I noticed that the USB were also handled by the C600 chipset.

I'm feeling I might be missing some files in the SCU folder to have the USB supported.

Symantec Ghost 11.5.1 picking up loopback address on Optiplex780s

I need a solution

I apologize in advance for the possibly convoluted explanation I'm about to give. I'm just a college intern way out of his expertise.

I've been running into this problem for a while now, I have the Ghost Server installed on an Optiplex 780 with Windows 7 that has no had any problems with restoring images to older models of the Optiplex, namely models below the 755.

The typical setup is I would run the GhostCast Server application on the first 780 (Let's call this server780), concurrently the second 780 would be using a Ghost Boot Disk CD created with the Ghost Boot Wizard from server780. It would boot from the CD into the (I believe it's called) pre-OS symantec ghost interface. Normally on older versions I would simply multicast and there would be a local IP other than the loopback address 127.0.0.1

Therein I believe lies the problem, since it doesn't pick up an IP address it can't communicate with the server780 and I cannot restore images to hard drives connected to the 780.

The entire point of these operations is to restore images to hard drives connected to the second 780. The entire operation involves two computers (server780, second780) and one network switch that both computers are connected to.

Also, the boot disk is using the Pre-OS [Windows PE] with all the options being default and burned onto a disk using the wizard.

Thank you very much for your time.

Volume full error

I need a solution

Hi - I'm getting a, so far, intractable error when trying to pull an image off of a system. This is a computer from which I've taken images successfully before.  However, any image pull or even push task now fails with:

Copy fauled: unexpected exception: source = "Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Ghost\incoming\winpe-512\*", dest="", detail = "File IO error on file boot.wim"

Filesystem error (26): Volume full

Generated at ..\ProprietaryLfoStream.cpp:88

And then a stack trace.

Some things I've done/checked:

1) Obviously, the drive is not full with >80G available.

2) The boot.wim file seems to copy OK. If I make a change on the ghost server, it copies the new file without any problems. It's less than 250MB in size.

3) After reading things online, I've tried defragmenting the MBR but that didn't change things (and it wasn't fragmented).

4) The relevant client log file lines appear to be:

Received message #\Open{ What = File, Name = "%systemdrive%\\sysprep\\unattend.xml", Mode = Write }
Received message #\SetGhostBoot{ VirtualPartitionSize = 15, Path = "incoming\\winpe-512", Manifest = { name = "WinPE-512", type = PEx86, size = 190, ram = 440, bootonce = 1, steps = ({ what = unattend, Path = "{manifest}\\ghost\\unattend.xml" } { what = checkDrivers, Path = "{manifest}\\pci.manifest.txt" } { what = checkFile, Path = "{manifest}\\sources\\boot.wim", size = 250 } { what = wipe } { what = format, filesystem = ntfs } { what = copy, from = "{manifest}\\*", to = "RP:\\" } { what = copy, from = "{manifest}\\bootmgr", to = "RP:\\ntldr" } { what = copy, from = "{app}\\pubkey.crt", to = "RP:\\ghost\\pubkey.crt" } { what = copy, from = "{app}\\incoming\\start.bat", to = "RP:\\ghost\\start.bat", when = exists } { what = copy, from = "{app}\\dnscache.txt", to = "RP:\\ghost\\dnscache.txt", when = exists } { what = copy, from = "{app}\\incoming\\GVPCFG.BIN", to = "RP:\\ghost\\GHREGUPD.REG", when = exists } { what = copy, from = "{app}\\preos\\winpe-512\\*", to = "RP:\\", when = exists }) }, ServerConnectionDeviceId = "{B8952FC9-4497-4B3F-8EBB-10C600EB8C74}" }

Incremental 64-bit backups

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

I purchased Ghost Suite 11.5.1.2266 a month ago. I'm confused because the key feature information at

http://www.symantec.com/ghost-solution-suite says---Support for Microsoft Windows 7 and 64-Bit OS's. And

the implemation guide page 166 says---Incremental backups of 64-bit operating systems are not supported.

I called sales to ask about this and was told that it was correct on the website and that the Implementation

Guide was wrong. Well, I tried to do the incremental backup after creating a baseline image on a Windows 7

64-bit system and it failed with the error---Symantec Ghost AutoInstall Snapshot: Error: This feature of

AutoInstall Snapshot cannot run on x64 platforms. It turns out the Guide is correct and your website is wrong!

This is kind of a bummer, all but one of my machines is 64-bit and for that fact most other companies are too! It

seems to me that your statement, "Support for Microsoft Windows 7 and 64-Bit OS's" is a bit of false

advertising.

I hope this feature will be added to a future upgrade, at no charge, for all of us who are disapointed by not being

able to do incremental backups!

Download UNDI drivers (perhaps)? OR USB Ethernet NDIS Drivers

I need a solution

We are running an older version of Ghost Solution Suite (1.0 I believe).  I've been Googling all about trying to figure out how get a network boot disk for a USB Ethernet adapter we've recently purchased, and the best I can find is several references to trying UNDI drivers which should be available in Ghost.  Is my version too old for this?  I would hope though that I could still download the files from SOMEWHERE.  Attached is a pic showing some of the driver selections I currently have for creating a boot disk.

If the UNDI drivers aren't available, does anyone know where I might be able to get either some NDIS or package drivers for a USB Ethernet adapter.  Searches for that have also proven fruitless :-(,

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
