Automation Agent Wont start in WinPE

I need a solution

Hello,

I have been a long time user of Altiris 6.9 but I was not the one who set up the console or server.  With that being said we are moving towards using GSS 3.2 as it feels very familar to what I was using.  My issue is arising after I PXE boot into the winpe 10 os.  As soon as winpe loads it pops up the standard cmd prompt and runs through its stuff like mapping the drives, but after its done the automation agent never starts.  I think i followed all the directions on how to create the preboot enviroment properly.  The only thing I can think of is I either missed a script to call the agent or my mapped drives are not correct?  Can anyone help me out with this issue so I can start imaging with the software.

Windows 10 Pro Activation with Volume License

I need a solution

Hello All - I have used Ghost many times in the past, but am new to Ghost Solution Suite 3.x and this is my first time attempting to deploy a Windows 10 image.  I have spoken to Microsoft support (not particularly helpful) and have tried searching this forum but there seems to be an isue with getting old posts to display?

My situation is this:  I have twelve DELL PCs, brand new, that shipped with with Windows 10 Pro OEM.  I have purchased a volume license for Windows 10 Pro (MAK) so that I am legal with my reimaging rights.  I have taken one of the twelve computers and reinstalled Windows 10 Pro (1709) with the VL media.  I went in to Settings and changed the Activation to my VL MAK key.  I then create the image with Ghost and all seems successful.  I then deply this image to one of the other computers which also appears to be succesful.  The issue is that, when I boot the second computer and go in to Settings, I'm getting the "can't activate Windows on this device" error.  I try reactivating with the VL MAK key with no success.  I try extracting the OEM key via the WMIC command and reenter that but I receive the same error.  On going back to the first PC, I run dlmgr /dlv and notice something odd.  While it shows that it is activated with a Volume License key, MAK, etc., the partial key displayed is the OEM key for that PC.  I try reactivating again with the VL key and get the same behavior, no change in what is disaplyed in dlmgr.

I feel like I'm missing an important step here.  I'm not terribly familiar with Windows 10 Pro yet, but I understand that these PCs are, for lack of a better discription, getting their OEM key from the BIOS.  I seem to be unsuccesful in getting my test computer to 'take' the VL MAK key, even after a fresh install from the VL media.  Can anyone help to shine some light on this?

Unable to sysprep Windows 10 1709

I need a solution

I'm having a hard time creating a Windows 10 1709 image because it doesn't seem to want to sysprep successfully. Through extensive Googling and a couple support calls, it seems Microsoft has made it extremely difficult to sysprep Windows 10.  The specific errors I'm seeing in the sysprep error log are:

SYSPRP setupdigetclassdevs failed with error 0

SYSPRP ClipCleanUpState resetting WNF_OLIC_OS_LICENSE_TERMS_ACCEPTED failed with NTSTATUS=c0000022

Has anyone been able to successfully create presysprep and sysprepped 1709 images for deployment with GSS 3.2 RU5? I was given a document with some steps to take before attempting sysprep (like disabling automatic updates of Windows Store apps, deferring feature updates, and removing UWP apps with Powershell), but still see those two errors in the sysprep error log.

Using W10 with GSS 2.5

I need a solution

Hi,

I'm working at a company in the Netherlands and I have a problem with GSS 2.5

We're using GSS 2.5 to ghost a W7 image to the workstations in the domain.Every time we try to create a win10 image, the configuration does not go along with the image. The workstations should be part of the domain and should also have a unique name, but I can not see that when I let the W10 image  ghost through the network.

Is it because W10 doesn't work with GSS 2.5? Do I Have to upgrade GSS to 3.0  or is there a way to use W10 with GSS 2.5 with configuration?

If there's a way to use W10 with configuration in 2.5? If there is a way, which way is there? I'm looking for an option.

I need a solution

Hi guys, im a french newbie who have to find a solution to finish his project for school.

Im in a company who have a server with 200 differents images. The fact is we have 5 mens who can ghost at the same time 7pcs (7x5=35), at the end 35 pcs can be ghosted at the same time. The problem that i’ve is the way used to ghost is : Server – Switchs – PCGhosted and that way when these 5 mens are ghosting, the network is totally BAD … I need a solution.

My solution, is to install the ThinClient on 5 New PCs for these 5mens then we’ll have Server – ThinClients – Switchs – PCGhosted . Why that ? Because i want that ThinClient (controlled by humain) can copy 1 or 2 images from the server to the thinclient (ThinkClient will have 1or 2 SSD/HDD to conserved images) for the time that they want, and to ghost Pcs. And we’ll have ThinClient – Switchs – PcGhosted … and the way Server – ThinClient will be used only to copy and not to ghost directly.

I dont know if i explain what i really want, but thats my first solution, if u’ve advices or anothers solutions thats will be awesome !

Thank you to all peoples who will help me

Boot Disk Creator in Solution Suite

I need a solution

Hello and I hope this post finds everyone doing well.

I have recently been tasked to switch from Acronis to Ghost for my project"s imaging needs.  I received the link to download the package 3.2 and I have installed that locally in our Lab.  What I need is an ISO that I can create because I travel and image servers on Navy ships worldwide.  I selected the Boot Disk creator in the Solution Suite Console and I am given two green options (LinuxPE x84 x64) and a number of Red WinPE (x86 / x64 3.0 - 10.0) If I select any of the WinPE options the only selection I get is Pre-Installed WAIK or ADK then browse.

I have been using Acronis for a few years now with a boot disk.  Boot to the disk, and either create an image or browse to the image files (which all must be on DVD) when imaging on the road.  I am just siimply scratching my head here.  I have read a number of stuff on good ol' Google but none in which has made this an easy process.  One stated go to Start All Programs Symantec Ghost Ghost Boot Wizard  But that option is not under my start menu.  I just need an ISO and I can take care of the rest but I do not have any experience with Ghost imaging but its crunch time to create a new image that I need to travel with in just a couple of weeks.

I do appreciate any and all help provided and wish you all the best,

Ian

Secure Boot computer

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

I have a Dell laptop that does only gives me the option to use secure boot (UEFI).  I want to be able to create an image of this laptop, but when I boot up to ghost it says that there is a partition that is using bitlocker and can't.  As far as the operating sysytem is concerned, bitlocker is not enabled, so I am assuming I am getting this message because of the secure boot mode.  If I attempt to create the image, it will basically copy the whole hard drive which is 254 GB in size, with no gurantee that it will restore.

Is there any solution to this issue?  Thanks.

I need a solution

Hi,

I have 2 GSS 3.x servers with thousand of jobs with identical names.

I need to export these jobs in a format that can be used for comparing (i.e. xml) instead of *.bin.

Is there any possiblity of comparing two jobs (actually doing it manually, going job by job, copy&paste scripts in text file and comparing...).

Thanks.

How delete "bin BOOT, DDB, Docs, Driver Validation", etc.

I need a solution

I had a windows 7 computer; it had Norton Ghost a long time ago. I stopped using it a long time ago. I'm sure it was uninstalled on the old computer.

I recently got a new windows 10 computer up and running.

A lot of files (I guess) re Norton Ghost must have gotten 'picked up' in the data transfer from the win 7 to 10 computer.

In my win 10 computer, I see a lot of 'folders' which I can't delete:

bin

BOOT

DDB

Docs

Driver Validation

EFI

Manager

Sources

Support

They are all under a heading:  "DVD Drive (F:) SymantecSRD

But there is no drive F on my computer! it's a phantom thing; I don't even have a dvd drive on this computer (which is what it says it is).

I was able to right click on this icon and choose eject (in devices and drives) but that only removes the display of DVD Drive F Symantec SRD in the devices and drives section.

Then if you go back into the computer and click on DVD Drive(F:) Symantec SRD you will see the folders listed above again; and it again populates the icon DVD Drive F Symantec SRD in the devices and drives section.

I can't right click delete these folders! help!

thanks

Problems with GSS 3.2

I need a solution

Dear peoples of Symantec Gost,

I have a simple question and I hope you can answer it for me,

At our company we are using GSS 2.5 and we are using it to ghost the workstations in our domain. We are using W7 as Ghost Image, but now we want to use W10. I've heard that you have to upgrade to GSS 3.2 which I did. I've just downloaded the free trial which I now working with and it is really great, but one thing I still don't understand.

In GSS 2.5, you have the option to create a task image and also to add a configuration. In the configuration you have to option to apply a computer name and to make it a member of a domain. That's the reason why all the workstations will be member of the domain after the ghost imaging.

But now, I want do to it same, but now for GSS 3.2. I have investigate the whole software, but I really don't know how to do it. I think It has something to do with "Jobs" but I don't know for sure. So that's why I ask you about how to create configuration templates and tasks in GSS 3.2. I know it's maybe a simple question, but I'm still just a student who want to improve my knowledge in IT.

I hope hearing from you soon,

Best Wishes,
Stagiair ZEBRA

Computer That Already Exist Showes Up as New Client GSS

I need a solution

Hi Guys,We have been using 6.9 for years and are moving to Ghost Solutions Suit. So far other than a few things the migration is going ok. We recently bought 85 Microsft Surface Pros and I was able to create an image with and campture it with GSS using the WINPE10 ADK.

Here is my issue: If I need to reimage a Surface Pro, I have a USB boot drive that I can boot to GSS with fine. When it boots automation we remove the USB stick and plug up a network dongle. From there we get an IP and can communicate with the Surface like any other computer.

However, even though the Surface was in GSS as a client it will show up as a new computer with the Yellow Triangle and not its current name. Basicly it showes up as a new client. In my example, the Surface already existed and was in use as 100-SP4-0647272 but when booting to automation it showed up as new client under its serial number 064727272453.

Can anyone tell me how to get these mergered or how GSS can check to see if the computer already exist and can just boot to automation, staying the name it is and the folder its in?

Set GSS Security to Only See Specific Group

I need a solution

Hi All,

We are an organization with multiple sites and each site has a designated Tech Support person. We are moving from Altiris 6.9 to GSS. I only want the building techs to see the building they are assigned to as far groups when they login. I have set security to where they cannot make changes to clients listed under other  groups/ sites but I would like them to not be able to see the other groups either. Just their assignment.

Below is an example of what the STEM tech sees when logged in.  As you can see, the "Middle Schools" and "North" groups are visable. He needs to only see STEM HS and all items listed there. Any ideas where to enable that?

I know this is possible in 6.9 but as far as I can tell my setup is the same as I build GSS.

can linuxPE join multicast session

I need a solution

A quick questin, this forum has been invaluable for me.

Can a pc pxe booted to the linuxPE image (using the ghost executable in the ghost folder on the shared drive) access a multicast session on a ghostcast server, has anybody used that or got it to work?

Everything I try just comes back with the error that it cannot access multicast session <session name>

The reason I am asking is if multicasting is not supported then why is it saying that it can't access the session and not something like "this feature is not available"

I have tried the following;

  • Windows PE works fine, connects to session and starts deploying the image, so firewalls and ports etc... should be good
  • linux can ping the ghost server and can mount browse the drive etc...so linux networking looks good to me.
  • I have 30 machine all the same type, all the same problem
  • I have other machines with the same problem
  • they are all using the intel e1000e network module under linux the machine has onboard intel gigabit card.
  • wireshark shows two udp connection atempts to port 6666 but then no further activity
  • wireshark under windows does alot more and then starts multicast.
  • image of the error is attached
  • I use the following command ghost -clone,mode=restore,src=mc"g",dst=1 -sure -blind -jaddr=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
  • to kick of the session
  • i have tried starting the ghostcast server in unicast mode, no change
  • i have tried to start the client in unicast but cannot find a switch to do that
  • the ghosterr.txt file does not have anything in it about what the issue is.

does anybody have any insight? I have raised a ticket with symantec support and while they have been very helpful they do not have many people using linux and do not have much experience with it. My reason for using it is that the boot image file is 18MB as opposed to the smallest windows PE i can get with is about 120MB

thank you all.

I need a solution

Background:  Using standalone Ghost V15 Boot CD and a WinXp system HDD

Made a backup image to a plugin USB  storage device, no errors reported

Shutdown everything , replaced imaged HDD with a blank one

Re-booted to Ghost CD and initiated recover image to new hdd

Selected make bootable, restore MBR, Then began the restore

Restore progressed smoothly until the end when Ghost prompted for "recovery CD" or similar msg.  Tried the system WINXP CD..nothing happens

I cancelled restore, rebooted system.  Win XP boots, but I am left with desktop wallpaper and no way to login.

I suspect GHOST was looking for addition s/w , but what? Can anybody point me in the right direction to enable me to get to the login screen?

Thanks in advance
