Symantec™ Ghost Solution Suite 3.2 Release Update6 (RU6) is now available.

FeatureDescription
Added support for Operating Systems

From this release onwards, following Operating systems are supported:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 7.4 (EXT 4)
  • CentOS Linux release 7.4 (EXT 4)
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 12 SP3 (EXT 4)

  • Windows 10 Enterprise 2015 LTSB

Updated Linux pre-OS FRM

  • New Kernel is updated in Linux FRM to improve security (supported only for x86)

Improved performanceFrom this release onwards, Ghost performance is improved with removal of the default CRC check during deployment of an image. If you want to run a CRC check when you deploy an image, use the new switch –crccheck in the Distribute image task.

Windows XP Professional to VMDK

I need a solution

I read on may other posts, and I have read and followed them, to either 

1. convert .gho to .vmdk (ghost32 -clone,mode=restore,src=FILENAME.GHO,dst=FILENAME.vmdk -batch -sure). from GHOSTERR.TXT: Error Number: (36000)Message:A signal or windows exception occurred.  it gets to 99% done and the Ghost GUI disappears; just disappears.  But does produce the GHOSTERR.TXT.    The resulting vmdk when placed in VMware, but VMware complains the disk is bad.

2. create vmdk right from ghost32.  The GUI just crashes, the command line (Ghost32 –clone,mode=create,src=1,dst=myimage.vmdk  -vmdk -sure) returns "invalid switch vmdk"

I verified my GSS 2.5 is v11.5.1.2266.   I created GBD vis GSS 2.5.   

I might buy GSS 3.2 JUST to get vmdk support.   but that is not right.  GSS 2.5 i paid for a WORKING ghost32.exe.  I should get one.  

I would like advice on how to trouble shoot the existing GSS 2.5 Ghost32.exe (from GHOSTERR.TXT: Version 11.5.1.2266 (Dec 24 2009, Build=2266))

Server 2016 and GSS 3.2U5 PXEService.exe fault

I need a solution

Does ghost not run on Server 2016 servers?  I have a member server (2016) with the console installed fine.  I have succcessfully installed the PXE components on a seperate server (2016) that is running DHCP.  The Altiris PXE Config Helper starts, but the MTFTP Server and PXE Server fail to start with a PXEService.exe application fault error.  I obviously cant start the pxe config tool b/c the pxe servers have not checked into the gss console.

DAgent remote agent deploy settings not maintaining

If you select Tools - Remote Agent installer - Next - You'll see the Agent Settings Summary:  

My settings are set to Connect to the Server Directly, and NOT to discover using Multicast.

No matter what i do, when i deply the agent, when i open the DAgent configuration on the end device, it shows discover using multicast as being selected instead of Connnect directly to the GSS Server....

Appreciate any pointers

Ghost and Surface Pro

I need a solution

We are trying to capture an image of a Microsoft Surface Pro model 1796. We are running Ghost Solution Suit 3.2. We can boot to the Ghost USB drives on any other device expect the Surface Pro. USB has been changed to first boot on the Surface and it will not load the Ghost application--it goes straight to Windows. Does anyone have a solution for getting this to work? Thanks!

after 92 percent installed the software an internal error 36000 occur. internal inconsistency.

History- before that it was stucking on 1 percent with error a:\ghosterr.txt then I read some thread and I install manually by command ghost.exe

now error occouring at around 92 percentage internal error occur ed. please help

Altiris PXE Config Helper service terminated, current block size is incorrect,

I need a solution

The Altiris PXE Config Helper service terminated with the following service-specific error: 
When accessing a new tape of a multivolume partition, the current block size is incorrect.

Of course, we don't use any tape any more... No idea what is meaning this message !

But curiously repeating this error all the same customer reinstalled this slave PXE server. We do have 3 others, same server config, same disk partitiion and type, perfectly working.

Customer upgrade latest update te GSS 3.1, and the result is one faulting server.

We do try to remove the PXE.INI file, and restart, same issue.

PXE config helper start, the 2 PXE associated services (MFTFTP + Server) and than, all 3 stopped, error message above, not found any PxeLog_*.txt file... (defaulty was not activated)

Hum, the file version seems not correct, all the same the install report success (all the same error, probably "normal"...)

But very curiously I found that files are not the latest version as it should...

See Pxe*.exe are 6.9.10103.51, and the correct versions are under a subfolder named 'UpSrv' with 6.9.10361.53

Well looks like an uncomplete install ? Any idea what's happen ?

I will make a clean remove, and clean reinstall tonight... Keep you updated with !

Clients not being added into the console

I need a solution

I haven't don't much with GSS in a few months but now when I push the Remote Agent Installer to a Windows 10 or Windows 7 computer their not being added to the Computers list in GSS.

I have disabled SEP on the server and the computers.  The service is running on the computers.  Below is the DAgent.log from one of them.

Obtain previous RU?

I need a solution

Hi all,

As referenced in my response to the official relase of RU6 - I'm getting screen tearing and other resize/white space problems in my console after installing RU6.  Server 2012R2 w/ desktop experience enabled.

Is there a location I can go to to obtain RU5, for example?  I'd like to be as functional and close to patched up as possible but my choices appear to be 3.2RU0 or 32.RU6 (which I can't use).

Hello,

could somebody help me, please? I have a small local network with Ghost Solution Suite 3.2 installed on Windows 2008 Server. From time to time I need to re-image the computers on local network using jobs (images are Windows 7/8/10).

Is it possible to run these jobs from the command line? I mean to right a script for the re-imaging computers from Ghost Solution Suite Server without GUI?

I need a solution

Hi guys,

I´m trying to take a image and deploy images for ATMs. None of the ATMs are in the domain and the default boot option is "Hard Disk". I have no problem deploying and installing the ghost agent.

Is there a way to force or modify remotely the boot order in order to boot from network? I´m asking this because I cant go to every ATM and change manually the boot order, so I would like a configure from the console the boot order. 

Please help me with this.!

DAgent terminates connection through PXE if computer is already listed in the console

I need a solution

I have built up three servers now testing this, on mulitple laptops models and brands but have been getting the same results. When I PXE using either WinPE 10 or 5.X, it works correct the first time and the laptop lists in "New Computers" in the console. If I reboot and attempt to re-connect the DAgent session gets terminated. I can then delete the device from "New Computers" and try again and it connects correctly. 

For some reason, the laptops will not connect if it is already listed in the console. Does anyone know why this would be happening? 

The installs are all standard, no abnormal configurations. Here are all the versions I am using and have tried, 

Ghost Solution Suite
Verison 3.2 (Build 1529)
Release Update: 6

SQL Express 2014 

DAgent Version 6.9.3605

WinPE 10.0
WinPE 5.X

Windows Server 2016 

Windows Server 2012 R2

Disk Full errro while backing up

I have an issue while backing up a Windows 7 Enterprise x64. It stuck at 56% and says Disk in Full. However the Disk space on the server is not yet full. What might be the cause of this issue?
